    The Preliminary Phase of the IBPS PO Exam is scheduled on 16, 22, 23 and 27 October 2016. We hope all of you are well prepared to fight out this obstacle.

    Today we are going to provide you all information regarding the number of questions that you can expect from each section and the approach that you should follow while attempting the questions.

    Before we move on to that, let us have a quick glance over the exam pattern first -



    Now let us go through the sectional strategy that should be followed for this exam -

    Quantitative Aptitude

    Expected number of questions from different topics based on the previous year paper for this section are -

    Number series – 5 questionsSimplification/ Approximation – 5 questionsQuadratic Equations – 5 questionsData Interpretation – 10 QuestionsMiscellaneous Questions – 10 questions

    Now the strong and weak areas for each section vary from student to student. However, you should try to attempt the following topics first since they are less time consuming -

    Number SeriesSimplification/ ApproximationQuadratic EquationsData Interpretation (Ratio and Average based questions)

    After you are done with these topics, you can move on to the miscellaneous questions if time permits.
    Try to finish this section in 25 - 30 minutes. You should be able to attempt 20 - 22 questions easily within this time limit if you have enough practice.

    Reasoning Ability

    Expected number of questions from different topics based on the previous year paper for this section are -

    Inequality – 5 questionsSyllogism – 5 questionsCoding Decoding – 5 questionsPuzzle / Seating Arrangement – 15 questionsMiscellaneous – 5 questions

    Try to attempt the questions from the following topics first since they are less time consuming -

    InequalitySyllogismCoding - DecodingSome miscellaneous questions like blood relations etc.

    After you are done with these questions, you can go for puzzles/ seating arrangement or the remaining questions if the time permits.
    Try to finish this section in 20 minutes. You should be able to attempt 20 - 22 questions easily within this time frame.

    English Language

    Expected number of questions from different topics based on the previous year paper for this section are -

    Reading Comprehension - 10 questionsCloze Test - 5 questionsFill in the blanks - 5 questionsSpotting Errors - 5 questionsParajumbles - 5 questions

    Try to attempt the questions from the following topics first since they are less time consuming -

    Cloze TestFill in the blanksSpotting ErrorsVocabulary based questions from Reading Comprehension.

    You can attempt the parajumbles and reading comprehension questions after you finish these questions if the time permits.
    Try to finish this section in 10 - 15 minutes. You should be able to attempt 15 -20 questions within this time frame if you have thorough practice.

    Keypoints -

    Remember, this exam is just Qualifying in nature.Try to attempt sufficient questions to clear the sectional as well as overall cutoff in order to appear for the mains phase of this exam.Do not waste your time on any particular question. Move on to the next question if you feel stuck at a particular problem,Time management will play a key role in helping you clear this phase of the exam. Make sure you divide your time for each section beforehand and try to attempt that particular section within the allotted time limit.Speed and Accuracy are other two features that are vital from this exam point of view. Make sure that you answer the questions accurately. One wrong answer could prove to be costly in your final score.Select the questions that you attempt carefully.

    NOTE - Try to attempt at least 60 plus questions in this phase.
